Our Story
Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
Living and working on a small family ranch in central Alberta profoundly shaped my formative years. My grandmother, widowed at a young age, was the matriarch of a Horned Hereford and Quarter Horse operation. She epitomized resourcefulness and hard work, ensuring the ranch's survival and success.

Her dedication left an indelible mark on me, instilling a deep appreciation for land stewardship and a profound connection to the food we consume. For us, "Farm to Table" was not a passing trend but a fundamental way of life.

Meeting my incredible wife over three decades ago, we merged my ranch background with her family farm experience, passing on our values to our three children. The desire to cultivate large gardens, fruit trees, and berries became an integral part of their identities.

Throughout my career as a log home builder and timber framer, my relationship with nature's resources is evident in every project I undertake. These values are reflected in our architectural approach to each endeavour. Returning to farm and ranch life has always been a goal of mine, a calling that has fueled my relentless pursuit over the decades. While hard work and a steadfast plan are indispensable, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to steward our Urth Farm and Ranch Properties.
Nestled at the base of the Rocky Mountains, with three kilometers of the Kootenay River at our doorstep, Urth Ranch feels like the perfect place to impart knowledge and create lasting legacies for future generations. Emulating our ancestors' ways, we utilize what our local environment offers, growing, harvesting, and eating according to the seasons. The farm is where the colours are ground, the canvas is stretched, and all preparations are made for the artist’s masterpiece, transforming local bounty into culinary delights.
